The Nigerian Army is set to Flag off the 3rd phase of Exercise ‘GOLDEN DAWN,’ in the Southeast, ENDURING PEACE in the North Central and Exercise ‘STILL WATERS’ in the Southern part of the country.

The Army Headquarters alerted the public that it will be embarking on these annual training exercises for the end of the year across the country in collaboration with Sister Services and other security agencies from October to December 2023.

Briefing Journalists on the upcoming Training Exercises, the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu said the exercises are designed to improve individual and collective professional competence of the troops which would dovetail into real-time operations to tackle various security challenges in the geo-political zones.

He said the exercises are necessitated by the level of “crimes which become more pronounced in the build-up to the yuletide when many citizens return home to celebrate and it will focus on enhancing the capabilities of the troops in intelligence gathering and effective, proactive response to criminalities.”

According to Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Exercise GOLDEN DAWN III to be conducted in the South East by the Nigerian Army is in concert with sister services aimed at tackling issues of armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, communal clashes and among other crimes peculiar to the area of responsibility.

Exercise ENDURING PEACE III which according to the Army spokesman will be in the North-Central, is primarily to address farmer-header conflicts, cattle rustling, banditry, kidnapping, ethno-religious conflicts and terrorism among others.

Exercise STILL WATERS III, taking place in the Southern region of the country will target the menace of cultism, robbery and kidnapping while also seeking to address the challenges of pipeline vandalism among other forms of economic sabotage.

“The exercise which will focus on securing critical infrastructures, the troops would be trained on advanced surveillance techniques, rapid response tactics and the use of technology to effectively counter pipeline vandalism.”

In the conduct of these exercises, the Nigerian Army will collaborate and synergise with various security agencies in confronting security challenges.
