Former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt Gen Ambassador Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Rtd) has enjoined participants of Army War College Nigeria Course 6/ 2022, to exercise full command responsibilities with the resources at their disposal.  Ambassador Buratai stated this on  5 July,2022 while  delivering a lecture to the  participants, titled ” Command and  Leadership in the Military my Style and Experience” The former COAS who  described  his leadership style as transformational, said he generally favoured the transformational leadership style, which according to the NCO Journal is the best style of military leadership. In his words” I have at different times adopted the different types of leadership style to get the job done depending on the situation and circumstances at that time” The former COAS quoted an American motivational speaker and author, Robyn Benincasa who said” Great leaders choose their leadership styles like a golfer chooses a club: with a clear understanding of the end goal and the best tool for the job”. Lt Gen Buratai (Rtd)also discussed some of the  challenges of military leadership, which he said include changing socio- economic environment, evolution of jointness, increasing non – traditional roles, managing technologically driven change and leadership for new roles among others.

According to the former COAS, as a leader, society must refine you and you must also be ready to learn. Talking about his cardinal philosophy on leadership, Gen Buratai said his cardinal philosophy amongst others include, modelling the way, encouraging the heart, inspiring a shared vision, challenging the process and enabling others to act.

He thanked the Comdt AWCN Maj Gen BA Alabi, members of faculty and staff of the College for living up to his expectation as one of the founding fathers of this noble institution. Highpoints of the lecture was the presentation of souvenirs, signing of the College visitors book and group photograph.
