In a crisp handover ceremony at the Defence Headquarters today, 4 November 2025, Brigadier General Samaila Mohammed Uba assumed the post of Director of Defence Information (DDI), succeeding Brigadier General Gusau. Gen. Uba steps into the role with a clear mission: drive unity of purpose, ensure timeliness and transparency, spearhead digital innovation, and forge strong media collaboration — four strategic pillars he has pledged to prioritise.
Born 1 July 1968 in Tudun Wada, Kano State, Gen. Uba entered the military via Short Service Combatant Course 30 at the Nigerian Defence Academy, commissioned in March 1993. His journey has taken him through mass communications, public administration and strategic development studies, with command and instructional roles across the Army. Notably, he commanded the 401 Special Forces Brigade in Borno, where he combined operational savvy with strong civil-military engagement against ISWAP. He also served as P.R. Officer for the Nigerian contingent in Rwanda and contributed to training at the Armed Forces Command & Staff College, Jaji.
As Gen. Gusau departs, his modest achievements are acknowledged, and good wishes extend to his future endeavours. Gen. Uba now enters with the challenge — and opportunity — to re-shape the Defence Information Directorate with renewed clarity, innovation and purpose.
