Nigeria’s ongoing push toward digital modernisation in the defence sector has once again earned international commendation as former Nigerian Army Website Developer, Ikerionwu Ifeanyi Fredrick, received the Golden Star Award for National Security Support through Technological Excellence at the 18th Africa Security Watch Awards in Doha, Qatar.
The award recognises Mr. Ikerionwu’s role in advancing secure digital systems for the Nigerian Army, contributing to improved operational efficiency, information security, and military public-facing digital infrastructure. During his service, he played a pivotal role in modernising online platforms and strengthening digital communication systems at a time when cybersecurity and information warfare continue to shape global security landscapes.
Organised by the Security Watch Africa Initiative (SWAI), the Africa Security Watch Awards honours outstanding individuals and organisations whose efforts support national security, defence innovation, public safety, and peace building across the continent.
In his remarks after receiving the honour, Ikerionwu expressed appreciation, noting that the recognition reinforces the importance of technology-driven defence capabilities.
“This award is dedicated to the Nigerian military and every officer and technologist working tirelessly to improve our nation’s security posture. As security challenges evolve, technology remains a critical tool for strengthening national resilience,” he stated.
The ceremony brought together senior military commanders, defence policy makers, security experts, and international partners, spotlighting Africa’s strategic shift toward cyber capability development and military digital transformation.
Mr. Ikerionwu’s recognition further emphasises Nigeria’s commitment to building defence-technology talent pipelines capable of supporting next-generation military capability and national security innovation.
