The Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) witnessed a change in leadership as Major General Ishaya Buba Maina assumed the Commandant of the College, taking over from Major General Bamidele Alli Alabi, who has been posted to 1 Division Nigerian Army Kaduna as General Officer Commanding (GOC). The transition ceremony was held at the College Conference Room of the prestigious institution on 30 June 2023.

In his farewell remarks, outgoing Commandant Major General BA Alabi expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the entire staff of AWCN for their unwavering support during his tenure. He acknowledged their collective effort in elevating the college’s standards and emphasized the importance of extending the same support and cooperation to the new Commandant.

Major General Alabi reflected on the remarkable accomplishments achieved under his leadership and attributed them to the dedication and commitment of the college staff. He urged them to continue striving for excellence and to offer their utmost support to the new Commandant as he takes on the reins of the AWCN.

Responding to the warm welcome, Major General IB Maina expressed his gratitude to the almighty God and the Chief of Army Staff Major General TA Lagbaja, for entrusting him with the esteemed position of Commandant. He humbly accepted the responsibility, vowing to uphold the exceptional performance of his predecessor and build upon the solid foundation laid at the AWCN.

Major General Maina articulated his vision for the college, highlighting his commitment to creating a more conducive environment for learning. He stressed the importance of continuous improvement and innovation, aiming to enhance the educational experience for both faculty and students. Recognizing the indispensable role of teamwork, he called for mutual cooperation and unity among the college staff, emphasizing that their collective efforts would be key to achieving the institution’s objectives.

Highlights of major activities during the Handing and Taking Over ceremony include the signing of the Handing and Taking Over Notes, decoration of the new Commandant with the College Insignia, Lowering and Hoisting of Flag and Inspection of Quarter Guard, amongst others.
